What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery to alter the shape and appearance of the nose by sculpting the bone or cartilage. Patients undergo rhinoplasty to repair an injured or broken nose, to improve breathing issues, or because they do not like how their nose looks. With Rhinoplasty, changes to your nose can include:

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

If your facial structure has fully developed and your nose has stopped growing, you are a candidate for rhinoplasty. Most females are eligible for rhinoplasty at around age 15, while males may need to wait a few more years. Good overall health is essential for recovery. Heavy smokers may not be good candidates due to healing issues. Rhinoplasty may not be advisable if you have a severe heart or lung condition. The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Sharma performs Rhinoplasty under general anesthesia in an Accredited Outpatient Surgery Center. His technique is Open Structure Rhinoplasty, which has been shown to produce predictable and long-lasting results. Operative time is typically 90 minutes to 2 hours. Downtime for most patients is about a week of limited activity.

During Open Rhinoplasty, a small incision is made between the nostrils on the underside of the nose. This approach gives Dr. Sharma access to the nasal anatomy beneath the skin, allowing precision reshaping and modification. The open technique allows Dr. Sharma to see cartilage issues that are not readily visible in closed rhinoplasty. Open Rhinoplasty better preserves the structural integrity of the nose, which can be compromised with a closed rhinoplasty relying on limited incisions inside the nose.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty vs. Reconstructive Rhinoplasty

Dr. Sharma is adept at both cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty. Cosmetic rhinoplasty focuses on changing the outward appearance of the nose for aesthetic reasons. Expected Results

It is crucial to have realistic expectations when undergoing any surgical procedure. This is especially true of rhinoplasty. The final effect is not immediate. The results will appear over several days or weeks as the swelling fades. For some patients, occasional inflammation may be evident in the morning for several months, fading as the day progresses. In the months following rhinoplasty, you will see a gradual refinement of the look of your nose. The final results will last for your lifetime.

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure.  Thus, medical insurance almost never covers the surgery.

Fees may apply for a consultation with Dr. Sharma, and at this time, we are unable to accept Financing options for Rhinoplasty.

Nasal health issues, like nasal obstruction or sinus problems, on the other hand, are almost always covered by insurance.  Dr. Sharma accepts most major medical insurance plans.
